The first London Marathon took place on the 29th March 1981, more than 20,000 applied to run, 6,747 were accepted and 6,255 crossed the finish line. Fast forward 39 years and a record-breaking number of registrations are in for a ballot place in 2020. Currently standing at 457,861.

Thinking about going the distance of a marathon seems like an enormous task, but with the right amount of time, training and support, anyone can do it. Half the battle is having the right mindset to succeed and we'll make sure this remains a positive experience every step of the way.
