LOCAL SCHOOL SMASHES SWIM FUNDRAISING TARGET FOR US! Pupils from Cranmore School, West Horsley took part in a sponsored swim which saw them finish lengths ahead of their initial fundraising goal, tripling the amount raised to over £6,000 for us. Over 200 pupils from the Junior Department enthusiastically took part, with the aim to raise as much money as possible for Cherry Trees. The sponsored swim took place this month over a two week period, with many messages of good luck sent to encourage the children from friends, family and supporters. Support for the youngsters saw donations quickly over take the initial £2,000 target set with one pupil raising £500 individually. Money donated will benefit Cherry Trees who have a close connection to the school due to proximity and also for the charities work around supporting young people. Community Fundraiser Debbie Boulter with (some of) the Junior School Swimmers - well done! Pupils who had taken part in the sponsored swim were each presented with a certificate, whilst a special assembly saw some of the best fundraisers rewarded. Debbie Boulter who heads up Community Fundraising at Cherry Trees was able to explain to the children what £6,000 means to Cherry Trees. ‘Seeing such young children so excited to be collectively involved in a fundraiser which is active, good for their health and one that really motivates them to raise as much money as possible is heartening. I was able to explain to them that £6,000 is a lot of money and for us it equates to providing day care for a child with disabilities for an entire year or entertainers in for the duration of the summer holidays. We are so lucky to have the friendship of schools like Cranmore supporting us.’ Fiona Nicholson Head of The Junior Department said; ‘We feel as a school it’s really important to support charities, underpinned by our Christian ethos. Something like the sponsored swim is a way to introduce to pupils the idea of helping others and in particular children with disabilities. We are so proud of all the children for participating so enthusiastically and raising so much for Cherry Trees, a charity where we know the money will really make a difference.” Cranmore School is an independent prep school in Surrey for girls and boys aged 2 - 13 years old with an impressive academic record and strong pastoral care.
