Wednesday the 25th of October was a very exciting day for everyone at Cherry Trees. We were lucky enough to be presented with a brand new minibus from The Lord’s Taverners, the cost of which was significantly contributed to by the Guildford Lions Club.

In the morning, we had the Lord’s and Lady’s Taverners come down to hand over the keys to the new bus.  The Lord’s Taverners are known for their support of young people with learning and physical disabilities, and their minibuses enable places like Cherry Trees to engage pupils in a range of sporting and recreational activities within the local community. Cherry Trees is very lucky to have the support of such an incredible organisation and we welcomed them last Wednesday for a wonderful morning of photos, kind words and tea and cake. Local radio personality and Lord’s Taverners supporter, Toby Tarrant, joined us for the presentation. On donating the minibus, he said, “We are giving Cherry Trees this minibus today which is going to make a huge difference. The thing that they keep drilling home here is that they want the young people here to have access to activities that every other child has and this minibus is going to be a huge, huge contribution towards doing that”.

In the afternoon we welcomed The Guildford Lions Club, who donated an incredible £18,000 towards our new minibus. The Lions have been a huge part of Cherry Trees ever since we opened 36 years ago, and their kindness and generosity over the years has helped Cherry Trees in so many ways. The Lions arrived in the afternoon autumn sunshine, which was perfect for some photos with the bus, and some of the children were very excited to get behind the wheel! After some words of thanks from CEO Claire Bryant and a tour of the house, everyone retired for tea and cake. We are so thankful to the Lions for their continued support and are absolutely delighted to be able to call them part of the Cherry Trees family.

This new bus will allow our staff to take the children on even more fun outings, as well as giving them more space on the daily school runs. We are very grateful to both the Lord’s and Lady’s Taverners and the Guildford Lions Club for such an invaluable contribution to Cherry Trees. The children can’t wait for their first ride in their new big green bus!
